Is there a difference between icing and frosting?

Icing is a more professional term used when talking about frosting that is stiffer and pipes well. But, it is a much debated topic of discussion. Icing is composed more of sugar, is put on the cake with a little bit thinner consistancy, and then hardens some on the cake.

Where as frosting, on the other hand, is much more rich and creamy. It is thicker and fluffier than iceing and usually has more butter/fats in it. (hence the reason for the richer taste). You can think of this like soda vs pop -- icing seems to be more of a small-town or southern thing where frosting is a big-city or northern thing.
